I’d sure like to knight him…with a steamroller

Titles I hereby bestow upon George Lucas in light of his continued desctruction of his own accidental masterpieces from the early 70’s (an homage to McSweeney’s Lists):

Defiler of Memories
Wonder-reaver
Ruiner of Heroes
Pilferer of Joy
He Who Should Not Write Dialogue
Profit-mongering Awesomeness Collapser

Care to add any?

  1. as my brother said: The question is no longer “if you could go back in time and kill hitler, would you?” but “if you could go back in time and kill George Lucas as soon as Jedi wrapped, how fast would you do it?”

  2. the only scenes i enjoyed were the “retro” scenes– Bail Organa on his ship, similar to the one where we first meet Vader, Leia, and the droids in Star Wars (OMG, is that a REAL WALL? and REAL FLOORS? and REAL PEOPLE?); Vader on the deck of his Imperial Cruiser overseeing the beginning of the Death Star; Obi Wan handing off baby Luke on Tatooine… all i can think is “well, at least it’s over.”

  5. Oh, it’s bad alright. real bad. Scathing review at http://www.headlesshollow.com. The scary thing is how many people think it’s pretty good.

  6. Strangely, I enjoyed myself. I agree with every bad review I’ve read of the movie, but I couldn’t help myself. Is it on par with A New Hope or The Empire Strikes Back? Probably not, but I did walk out of the movie feeling entertained, which did not happen upon viewing the most recent two Star Wars movies. The writing was horrible, the entire thing felt like a wrap-up, but I was satisfied enough not to leave the theater angry. Of the 3 more recent movies, I’ll probably end up owning this one, and just making up the other two how I see fit.

  7. i’ve talked to a couple people that liked it better on a second viewing, and i bet i would, too. i know that i liked The Crow better on a second viewing… i was able to get angry at the first viewing, all of the liberties and inconsistencies, and once i was over that i was able to actually enjoy it the second time around.
