Apparently, I’m sensitive.
This makes me sad.
Although her act makes me laugh, I am by no means enamoured of Margaret Cho. She is funny, yeah, but there are funnier comedians who are not getting the kind of attention she is. Her work with the gay and lesbian community is laudable, but that does not elevate her to the peak of Kilimanjaro where comedy is concerned. Now, I am going to listen to that “Persimmon Diet” bit again ’cause that is hilarious.
Regardless, these attacks actually shocked me. Man, I thought as a civilized country we might be past some of this shit.

By now, one would think I’d be immune to the level of misplaced malice that people are capable of; but it is still shocking. I suppose this is a good thing, since I should not aspire to be desensitized to it.
Anyway, it’s not too surprising that people continue to take a useful tool like the two party (or multi-party) system and corrupt it with bandwagon-ism. I think many folks keep searching for the idyllic family they never had. If they couldn’t find it at home, they join a gang, or a church, or rally behind a politic group, or cheer a particular sports team with vigor. We’ve lost the value of individual thought, if it was ever really valued to begin with. Community and solidarity seem to be of paramount importance.
Personally, I have been convinced of issues that cross either side of the political fence more than once. If I had to limit myself to one party, I would feel woefully unfulfilled. Healthy debate is exactly what is needed, not bandwagon-ism. A president should fill most of his/her cabinet with members of the opposing party. I would do this because I already know what my views are; and I usually don’t have to look extra hard for people who agree with me. That’s easy. We naturally gravitate toward people who agree with us. That’s why we have to take special measures to avoid “yes men”. We should go out of our way to hear an opposing view at least once a day.
Is there really any point to this rant? As usual, nope. Idealistic centrism seem all but lost amidst cries of “me too”.
