So far, no good.
New style is forthcoming, but I wanted the new version to be running. Of course, now the spammers are back in.
Update 1: Installed latest version of WP-blacklist. Waiting 1 hour to check spam count.
Update 2: In 30 minutes, I had 4 spam comments. Unacceptable. Renaming comment-related pages to exclude “comment” altogether. Waiting one hour to check spam count.
Update 3: 1 spam. Other spam-killing options I’ve researched seem to be awfully intrusive, highly technical or high-maintenance. Waiting another one hour to check spam count.
Update 4: 3 hours later, no more spam. I can handle 1 or 2 a week maybe. I will keep this post…er, posted.
Update 5: The next morning, I had 56 spam comments in moderation queue. One made it through to the site. I used WordPress to mark them as spam. Waiting 2 hours to check spam count.
Update 6: Two hours later. 13 comments in moderation queue. Not sure if I’m satisfied. Too busy today to do anything about it anyway.
