The heart of rock and roll is still beating.
More on this thread between Bjorn and the world of rock, somethingawful chimes in.
Someone better do something about this soon, or my little brother’s generation will never understand what the words “new” and “music” sound like together.
UPDATE: Road trip to save music.
Makes you wonder if Big Rude Jake’s anthem, “Let’s kill all the rock stars”, is really so far off the mark.

There is a very specific reason I don’t listen to the radio anymore. That reason is the drivel ON the radio. To long for the inventiveness of the ’80s and early ’90s. Man, that’s just sad. This dry spell has to end, and soon.

Simply brilliant. It is quite frightening how the bar keeps getting lowered, in terms of what constitutes “good” popular music. Back when I almost exclusively listened to industrial music, I found myself scoffing at bands like Pearl Jam for being too trite and ineffectual. Now when I hear Yellow Ledbetter, it’s like Mozart to me. Here’s another little anecdote that I’m quite ashamed of, being the disciple of Led Zeppelin that I am now. When I first heard “Immigrant Song”, I sort of dismissed it as crap hair metal, only to love it later. Now, that isn’t the only song to endear itself to me after repeated listening. However, I have never warmed up to a nu-metal “song” after hearing it multiple times. Perhaps I will in 2008 when we’re all listening to Jessica Simpson’s daughter. *shudder* Anyway dude, be forewarned that at some point in your life I will come in the night and kidnap you, take you to a music studio and I won’t let you out until we make the album we were born to make. =) Many apologies to you and MHG, in advance.
