My hero.

I have to admit something. I know that there are people out there who will never understand this, but Jack Black is my all-time hero. From the first time I saw him in Airborne up to the present, he continues to rock the world with his message of setting the artist free. With Rage Kage loyally by his side, Jables is undoubtedly the most powerful persona we geeks can trust to change the world for the better.

Anyone who knows me knows that Spider-man was my hero for most of my youth, so when MTV juxtaposed the two, my faith in humanity was at an all-time high. Is there anything better?

Also, Buffy’s in it.

The Shopping Cart ain’t just a dance…

MetaFilter, home of the gods, pointed me towards this incredibly obvious and under-utilized eCommerce idea. Check it.

Warning: OFN

Mirth filled my belly when I read this. I want to send it as a late valentine to MHG.

So I will.

A softer world, indeed.

UPDATE: As I was typing in my girlfriend’s name, my hamfists missed a couple of keys. My girlfriend’s name and my mother’s share some letters, and were I not more observant, I would have created a situation both hilarious and hideous.

Mom: Oh, how sweet! Chris sent me a belated valentine. Oh, haha! What a weirdo he is to talk about breastfeeding and…oh God. (phone is dialed, urgently, clumsily)

Stoners don’t even make bongs out of that. Wait…yeah they do.

“The resonant frequency of the Tortilla-Boardâ„¢ is a harmonic of the clock frequency. This caused a feedback loop in the oscillator that increase the clock frequency of the 68HC11 by a factor of almost 2. That means that programs written for 68HC11 circuits using the Tortilla-Boardâ„¢ run twice as fast. That was an exciting and unexpected development.”

So far, no good.

New style is forthcoming, but I wanted the new version to be running. Of course, now the spammers are back in.

Update 1: Installed latest version of WP-blacklist. Waiting 1 hour to check spam count.

Update 2: In 30 minutes, I had 4 spam comments. Unacceptable. Renaming comment-related pages to exclude “comment” altogether. Waiting one hour to check spam count.

Update 3: 1 spam. Other spam-killing options I’ve researched seem to be awfully intrusive, highly technical or high-maintenance. Waiting another one hour to check spam count.

Update 4: 3 hours later, no more spam. I can handle 1 or 2 a week maybe. I will keep this post…er, posted.

Update 5: The next morning, I had 56 spam comments in moderation queue. One made it through to the site. I used WordPress to mark them as spam. Waiting 2 hours to check spam count.

Update 6: Two hours later. 13 comments in moderation queue. Not sure if I’m satisfied. Too busy today to do anything about it anyway.

The web is free, isn’t it?

This is what I deal with EVERY DAMN DAY with my clients (and friends who want websites.) The web is actually not anything like a building, despite the term “Information Architecture.” That descriptor, information, changes quite a bit about what to expect.

Ok, maybe just this one time.

Naturally, as soon as I post that I’m notever fixing a computer for anyone ever again, my mother and my father both can’t keep World of Warcraft from blacking out their machines when my 13-year-old brother plays it. Since I built the computers, it must be something I did right?

Luckily, the helpful MetaFilter folks had some excellent suggestions on where to begin. I’m fairly certain it’s a video card issue, from the vague descriptions they’ve given me, but I’m going to follow the plan below to save myself future headaches. If you can read, you can do it, too!

Texas Holdem has some work to do.

I’ll be upgrading WordPress for the blogs I host at steelbuddha this week. I do not expect downtime, but for the seven readers get each month I apologize that you might have to wait to hear me bitch about parking. Love and kisses.

Golden oldie.

I know this shirt has been around a while, but it never used to apply to me, because I would perform the within-mentioned act. Since my last such attempt went so horribly sour, I think it is now appropriate for me to own.
